Carpmaels & Ransford are Europe’s leading patent attorneys whose clients include a number of eminent blue chip companies. With this in mind we proposed breaking the law website design mould with a fresh up to date visual approach when designing their new fully responsive bespoke website, built on WordPress. Expanding on their existing brand and colourways we introduced a photographic language that was friendly yet professional, and produced custom iconography to act as visual cues.

The origins of  Carpmaels date back to 1776, so they have become a firm that has shaped the foundations of European intellectual property over past 200 years. In that time the company has grown into an industry leader, with offices in London and Munich, boasting a diverse portfolio of clients and a workforce of over 200 people.

Through careful user experience design (UX) we enabled users to quickly establish which lawyer would be most suitable for their case. We achieved this by implementing visual cues for each of the service and sector pages, communicating the story on the page with ease through video and photographic content. We also ensured that headlines were kept short and to the point, and call to actions were more visible to the user.

The site was also built with a custom CMS, allowing the client to update the site more efficiently.

We produced all the photography and video content, including mouse-overs and time lapses, for the whole 200+ page website. This also included an extensive profile section which aimed to promote the personalities and accessibility of the individual lawyers, right through to the technical assistants.

In total we took over 20,000 images for this project, culminating in a extensive catalogue of content that now exists on the Carpmaels website. This includes Architectural photography of the building and interior photography of the offices, location photography to provide a geographical references to the Holborn area, and style shots for briefing notes and news articles. We have also photographed over 200 members of staff on site for their individual profiles, and covered events for their Corporate and Social responsibility pages.

With such a vast amount of information available we needed to ensure that the user would be able to access what they required quickly, and with ease.  We developed several custom search and filter functions, allowing the user to search and filter all content on the site.
