The Julius is New York's oldest continuously operating gay bar. Prior to 1966 it was illegal in the city of New York to serve alcohol to gay or lesbian patrons.  A protest was staged in the Julius that year which helped overturn this legislation and gave momentum to the early LGBT civil rights movement.

This book was written and designed as a reaction to visiting the Julius and speaking with the patrons and employees.  The topic of gay culture and community arose; whether there was still such a need in today's more socially progressive climate.  This book contains original writing along with other interviews and essays that I encountered during my research.
