Fruit Bowl
Gradient Mesh exercise for Digital Illustration class
This project used the gradient mesh tool in Illustrator alot. In the past I have primarily used Illustrator for solid color objects with placed images, for projects like logos or information graphics, and anything that needed gradients I relied on Photoshop. This project relied on the gradient mesh tool for the color variation in the fruit skins, and for creating the bowl.

Creating the textures for the grapefruits and pears proved to be much more tedious than I had imagined they would be. My instructor had ensured us that the bananas would be the most difficult, but I disagree. The shinier fruit had more differentiation in the colors and the highlights were more pronounced.

I first made the front two grapefruits, the left pear, the apple and right banana. Then I created the bowl in two layers, the whole thing on the lowest layer, then copied part of it onto the top layer. Next, I duplicated the fruit and arranged all of them between top and bottom to make them appear to be inside the bowl. Then I added various small pieces of multiplied gray to simulate shadows.
