Creating the jobs of the future:
THE CURIOSITY TUTOR

This project is the result of a research conducted during the course of Product Service System Design at Politecnico di Milano. The aim was to propose the new professional figures of the future based on social needs emerging from a European consultation project called Cimulact.
The elements shown here are the results of complex processes of research that involved data analysis and visualization as well as elaborated conceptual framings about future scenarios in the fields of education, labour and technology.    

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

By understanding the moments in the life of a person, we managed to identify and position events that may occur on a life/time affecting the processes of personal development. This concept has been divided into four categories for deeper analysis.  
The first category correspond to Cognitive development understood as the construction of thought processes that we build during our life. From health and wellbeing to culture and arts, all the activities and jobs that influence and frame our knowledge and development.

Physical development is the process that starts in human infancy and continues through life. In our analyses, this development covers also nutrition, physical fullness and all of the respective jobs and activities that help secure this matter.

Emotional development reflects social experience, including the cultural context. These experiences are framed from family attachment to personal achievements, revolving around jobs that assist the sentimental areas of our experiences through life.

Lastly, the process of improving and increasing capabilities through work experiences is referred to Professional development. From training to guidance, the professional development revolves around jobs that can support personal evolution focused on career wise.

Cognitive Development

Following the set of needs established by Cimulact, a European consultation project, we decided to focus our research on the Cognitive Development of individuals.
On one hand, the study showed the need for life-long-learning. This is a human right because education is not age based but aims to achieve the individual and societal full-potential, plus a better citizenship.
On the other hand, there is a need for enhancing the quality of education by restructuring content and learning context and personalisation starting from the student’s talent ability and learning style.
FUTURE JOB CREATION

After establishing a solid framework of theoretical content, we gave the creative step towards the creation of the Jobs of the Future. By adding a mega-trend into the personal development equation, we were able to predict scenarios for future job creation.  A wide range of professional figures emerged for each of the personal development aspects that we were using during the first part of the research.
Future Jobs for Cognitive Development

One of the most interesting professional figures that emerged from the research was the so called “Curiosity Tutor”. This conceptual figure appeared in the scenario of Self-managed education, following the mega-trend of embracing complexity as a way of framing reality. Defining this professional figure would lead us to the next step in our research.
UNDERSTANDING CURIOSITY

Nowadays, curiosity is limited to the scope of our web browsing history. Algorithms have become the definers of our interests. Being exposed to diverse areas of knowledge is essential during the learning process. Ultimately, connecting these dots is what leads to new conclusions and sources of exploration.

Experience Curiosity

This selection of theoretical information and case studies are presented in a way that resembles the natural process of hyper-link navigation. Different paths have been suggested for the user to navigate in an assisted way though the complexity of the collective intelligence, guiding the curiosity in a process of discovery. 
Ethnographic Research

We conducted an ethnographic research with potential candidates that could fit into the figure of the curiosity tutor. This people had completely different backgrounds, but they shared one common feature: curiosity was an essential part of their professional life.
TOWARDS A DEFINITION OF THE CURIOSITY TUTOR

Access to global knowledge is given for granted in this time. However, there are some challenges inherent to the way in which people is exposed to this knowledge. When assuming Learning as a long-life process, it is necessary to understand that most of the cognitive exploration through the Collective Intelligence will be self-managed.
The concept of Curiosity Tutor refers to the guide that will ensure the absence of bias during this processes of exploration. At the same time, stimulating and engaging a methodological and conscious development of curiosity. 
This is not a radically new concept. This task is already being carried out in different ways. On one hand, people is presenting topics to broad audiences thanks to ICT’s encouraging discovery. On the other hand, algorithms are assuming the responsibility of filtering the information to which people is exposed.

This is the baseline for the proposition of radically merged systems of human and artificial intelligence that may
guide individual or collective Curiosity in the process of cognitive development.
