Santo Tirso, 2001

The store was (it still is) a corridor with 11m of extension. Its width is variable between 2,5 m and 3,5m, and in the back there is also an area used as storage. The atmosphere is dark: dark colors and bad light. The shop is dead, the store is filled with tons of products on display, unfortunately high quality products

The shop is a time machine. If once was a provocative picture of consumer instincts, it never was elegant. now is a deadbody, still working because of the staff sympathy and by the grifes.

Program
Remake a jeanswear and accessories store in 36m2. They asked me red, provocation, order, functionality, flexibility, low costs, deadlines...
I retain flexibility!
They asked for more shelves, movable exhibition furniture; hanging: counter, computer, cash register, hi-fi; shop-window; partitions; dressing rooms; illumination, publicity, sound, image… for all this flexibility, I need plasticine! why not?

Synthesis:
A plasticine sculpture! One pavement, one shelve, one corner, one ceiling, all will be only one material and one thing.
With the sculpture cast, I can stretch it and make an extrusion. An extruded profile where are visible negative shapes, that when this shapes perforates a shapeless mass, will mold every part of exhibition furniture.
I cut a slice in two tops of the mass. In the front top the residual space will be the entrance and the shop-window. the back top will be the lounge and distribution area for the dressing rooms and the office.
