In 2012 Sub Rosa introduced the GE Garages – a large-scale national program to reinvigorate America's interest in invention, innovation, and manufacturing. The program, which brings together collaborators such as TechShop, Skillshare, Quirky, littleBits, MakerBot, Inventables, Autodesk, and more, is a mix of education, hands-on workshops, and public works projects. Unveiled at SXSW, the first GE Garage undertook a partnership with BikeTexas to design and weld bike racks for the city of Austin's bike share program. Working with SXSW and local Austin attendees, 13 bike racks were created and donated to the city. The program continues to make stops at key cities and events around the country, training participants new and old in some of the latest manufacturing technology and reigniting a passing for invention and making things that only GE can inspire.
