Our Place; Live Music Lounge - Senior Thesis

Our Place
Live Music Lounge
The intent of the proposed project is to design a new live music venue in Atlanta to fulfill the needs of the community for a space that promotes intimacy and individuality. The ideas will challenge and explore traditional settings through which musical expression is experienced. Conceptually the notion of home has been introduced and carried out through the space layout as well as details of comfort. Our Place creates an environment in which patrons can kick back, relax, and get back to the music.
Located in an adaptive reuse warehouse, the site selection for Our Place lends itself to the revitalization of a dwindling economic area of town while staying true to Atlanta’s musical roots. The close vicinity to multiple public transit stations draws an expanded audience base both geographically and culturally. Furthermore, the building itself showcases the original character of the surrounding community and with the decision made to leave the façade aesthetically unchanged it retains unique historical value.
Upon entering the space from street level the atmosphere is energized but relaxed. It is an eclectic network of all who share a passion for music. Functionally it provides individual areas based on the layout arrangements of lounges that reflect the stylistic aesthetics of spaces within the home. Soft seating, high back furniture, coffee tables and low profile ottomans, benches, and specialty pieces help define each specific room in carrying out distinguishing design schemes.
Housing five individual lounges that relate to spaces found within the home, patrons have a truly distinctive experience viewing performances from each area. It is with the freedom of choice that viewers are given the opportunity to express individuality. Although each lounge is cocktailed by multiple servers, guests are free to obtain their own drinks at the domestic kitchen style bar that is located in the public areas on all four levels. Set below the surrounding lounges lies the singular stage that is engineered to accommodate the rich sounds of acoustic performances. Developments of the space showcase the audience as a physical presence to the performance and highlight music in its most pure form-sound. It is through this design direction that the need for intimacy is explored.
