Bewell - an emotional social network (CGIU 1st Place)

Our focus was to develop an inclusive experience such that college students could proactively work on their with mental health in a positive way.

Bewell is a platform centered on a heuristic model that combines combines voice software, text, and data analytics to address the challenges of social and emotional isolation. This is done by enabling users to better understand their emotional well being and connect them with peers who are navigating similar experiences for peer support. The application also allows individual to further connect with experts for more specialized guidance and help when needed. Bewell won 1st place at Clinton Global Initiative University Codeathon 2016.

Chelsea Clinton gave us a shout out on twitter and Bill Clinton graciously took a selfie with me!
Problems we intended to curve:
Isolation or lack of social support is one of the main risk factors for suicide.
Isolation has a negative impact on physical, mental and social health.
Studies show that almost 10 percent of students at public four-year colleges quit before their second semester because of lack of support, resources, and the feeling of belonging.

Our research shows:
Research suggests a positive correlation between social interaction and health.
Social relationships are consistently associated with biomarkers of health.
Expressive writing is a route to healing.
Tracking symptoms day-to-day in order to recognize triggers and learn ways to control them.
