Barcode – Instant City

Barcode – Instant City
Arvinius+Orfeus Publishing.

Brief
Design and produce a book for the Barcode Project, a redevelopment of former dock and industrial land Bjørvika in central Oslo.

Result
In the masterplan for the Barcode project one of the rules was that each building had to be different, both in size/height and choice of materials. We conceptualized that idea and let elements like the columns and images in the book be fluid and varied. Another important part of the project were the spaces in between the building, that area was just as important as the buildings themselves. Through out the book we have introduced what we called "space in between" as a design feature. The hustle and bustle of the area is a big part of the community and we wanted to introduce the new area's everyday life. By looking at the spaces in between buildings and what goes on there during all hours of the day we got a great feel for the personality of the place. Also to bring this idea even further we had 16+16 pages of the book dedicated to a photo documentary about it's people.

Size: 198x244mm
Pages: 272
Paper inside: Munken Polar White, 150g
