VISTA: An Observation Exploration

Vista: An Observation Exploration
The objective of this experiment was to take a task, or something done in daily life on a regular basis and make it into a ritual. This approach focuses around bringing mindfulness into an action or a process. I chose to study observation as my "task".
The exploration resulted in three wearable instruments that allow the user to experience vision in new and unexpected ways. Each instrument distorts or expands the power of human visual perception, generating new and inspiring visual experiences.
Vista: Refract
The Refract frames are simple, 3D printed frames with an acrylic triangular prism suspended on an axis in front of the user's eyes. The two knobs on either side allow the user to turn the prism for a variety of visual effects.
Vista: Color
The Hue frames are open, 3D printed frames with tracks for colored gel lenses to slide in and out of. Changing the color combinations on each eye by removing or adding colors allows the user to create perceptual experiments.
Vista: Reflect
The Reflect frames are 3D printed frames with a head band, elastic chin strap, and two hollow rectangular prisms made of mirrored acrylic. The mirrored prisms sit against the user's face and can easily be swiveled independently of each other. The frame system lets the prisms swivel on both vertical and horizontal axes to give the user a brand new field of view.
