Stackable Apartments: Design for Variability

The purpose of this project was to investigate options how a design can be variable and replicable in order to fit in various contexts, but at the same time will not lower the bar for architectural qualities. This can lower the costs, but still provide unique places to live in.

The vision was to design a building which has no "back side", which communicates with its surroundings and gives something back to the taken land, but also opens communication channels for its inhabitants.

This sample design of a high-rise has been compiled of 4 "typical floor plans", which have been designed with a keen eye on spatial detailing and stackability.
In the merged Section-Elevation the important features of the facade and spatial planning are described and showcased. In order to fit with various surroundings, height limitations, and requirements for apartments' combination, the typical floor plans can be stacked on each other. Therefore, the expression of the facade can vary from case to case. Moreover, the facade cladding can be also changed and a new look is achieved.
