Stewart Strawbridge's profile

Natural Resources Council of Maine

Since founding Selkirk Partners in 2008, managing director Stewart Strawbridge has guided the investment advisory firm with the goal of achieving superior long-term risk-adjusted returns for the company's clients. A graduate of Bowdoin College, where he studied classics and archaeology, Stewart Strawbridge is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a CFA Institute member. Mr. Strawbridge is actively involved in a number of nonprofit organizations, and he sits on the board of the Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM).

The NRCM has upheld its mission of protecting, restoring, and preserving Maine’s natural environment for more than 50 years. Using science, the law, and the power of people uniting to protect Maine’s land and water resources, the council oversees many projects to protect Maine’s natural beauty for current and future generations. A recent project involved the attempt to prevent the weakening of Maine’s mining rules.

In 2014 and 2015 the NRCM successfully led an effort to convince Maine’s legislature to reject weaker mining regulations proposed by a Canadian mining conglomerate and Maine’s largest landowner. The new laws would have allowed a large open-pit mine on Bald Mountain in Aroostook County, where mining pollution inevitably would have found its way into the Fish River and the Fish River chain of lakes, a string of eight undammed lakes renowned for their trout and salmon.
