THE CANOPIES:
Inspired by our visual local patterns, a modular triangular pattern was generated to build each canopy; each hand netted by a community of women in the Gaza camp in Jerash. 3000 triangles are netted using a special crochet technique, a derelict craft that is dying and slowly disappearing, with our demanding consumer society that we live in. The colorful threads are created using collected waste plastic bags.
The 10 canopies are a reaction against dominant culture: against mass-production and against capitalism. A symbol of empowerment and self expression through Craft and creativity, shifting production back into the hands of ordinary people instead of the machine power.
The 10 canopies are a collective attempt to relocate personal meaning in an indifferent world, through fragments that weaves together the body of each canopy. A social, performative piece reflecting values of community, locality and sustainability through the dying craft of crochet weaving.

تم إنشاء تركيب نمطي على شكل مثلّث، مستوحى من الأنماط البصريّة المحليّة، يتبنّى الاستدامة وإعادة التدوير لبناء كل مظلّة بخيوط تم تجميعها من أكياس بلاستيكيّة. حاكت هذه المثلثات، التي تبلغ 3000 مثلثاً، نساء من مخيّم جرش للاجئين باستعمال تقنية الكروشيه الفريدة، وهي حرفة مهملة اختفت جرّاء اعتماد اقتصاد الاستهلاك على الإنتاج الشامل. تمثّل المظلات العشرة موقفاً ضد الثقافة المهيمنة، والإنتاج الشامل والرأسماليّة. تعكس هذه التركيبات تمكين الحرف والإبداع والتعبير عن النفس، محوّلة القيم بعيداً عن الآلة وتقربها إلى أيدي الناس العاديين. تعيد المظلات موضعة المعنى الشخصي في عالم لا مبالٍ، وذلك باستعمال شظايا تنسج جسد كل مظلة. هذه قطعة اجتماعيّة أدائيّة تعكس ثقافة المجتمعات المحليّة المتماسكة عبر حرفة حياكة الكروشيه المحتضرة.
