Penguin Modern Classics is a new set of books that celebrate a diverse range of fiction. The first three books in the series are 'The History of Silence' by Pedro Zarraluki, 'Siddhartha' by Hermann Hesse and 'The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle' by Haruki Murakami.
To visualise the themes of discovery and curiosity present in all three of the titles, I designed stencil cut-out covers that encourage readers to pick the book up and open the blank page in order to reveal the image underneath, effectively engaging the reader with the themes found in the stories. Limiting each cover's colour scheme to a colour that relates to the story (i.e. love in the History of Silence) gives each book a sense of individuality whilst still tying them together as a set.
