Earth Heart Growers, a community project designed and implemented by Liz Ramirez, Alex Seaman, and Helen & Joseph of Joseph Fields Farm. We're working with the Charleston County Public Schools to initiate a farm-to-school program, bringing children to the farm once weekly for the fall and spring growing season to learn what it means to grow your own food, care for the animals, and prepare a meal for your friends. We began with a soft launch in 2016 with our pilot program at Hursey Elementary, and will expand to include 3 pilot schools come fall. The intention is to unite the family with the farmer, creating an awareness around healthy eating that will last a lifetime. We seek to enhance the educational offerings at the school and to create a dynamic program that integrates farming, school gardens and the home arts.
