Edie Sedgwick Typography Booklet

This was a third year project which required us to create a booklet around a historical figure using mainly type. I chose to base my booklet around the life of Edie Sedgwick. Sedgwick was an influential figure primarily during the 1960’s and considered Andy Warhol’s muse. I have decided to aim the booklet at Art/Design and Fashion students as Edie is mainly known for her style and individuality during her fifteen minutes of fame.
As Edie’s dream was to study Sculpture, I strived to portray this throughout the booklet design. Initially, the colours are light and airy reflecting the early years of her life.
Bold text dominates the early stages of the design. The decision of a white border structure around the pages of the design signified the strict regime of her parents in her early life.
I have included a lot of line work on each page in order to direct the viewer’s attention to the font detailing her life. The colours start to gradually get darker as we move through the booklet in order to convey her turbulent lifestyle to the viewer.
The final page creates a powerful impact for the viewer as it highlights Edie’s introduction to drugs through the factory and those fifteen minutes of fame which led to the rise and downfall of her life.
