Pieces of Heaven. Curating, Exhibition Design, Research [Edinburgh, UK. 2016]
I conducted a research project on children’s book illustrations of late 19th-century among the rare book collections of the Central Library. My project culminated in an exhibition held from 5th to 28th April 2016 in the staircases, which displayed works by eminent illustrators: Walter Crane, Kate Greenaway, Raldolph Caldecott, Arthur Rackham. Exhibition content emphasised on the aesthetic progression that led to the children’s books as we know them today. Throughout the project, I autonomously researched and wrote with an awareness of the needs of a non-specialist readership. At the end of this project, I achieved my goal of bringing a designer touch to the Central Library.

The peculiarities of each artist shaped the setting of my exhibition, some needed more space than others. For example for Kate Greenaway’s Under the Window, I wanted to add color scales to demonstrate the extraordinary variety of shades used at a period where color-printing was an extremely time-consuming process. So her work required some more space in the exhibition.

Downstairs, due to the dim lighting, I chose a light and neutral background color for the panels.

As part of my coursework for MSc in Modern and Contemporary Art: History, Curating, Criticism at the University of Edinburgh, I also provided the below infographics as visual support to my presentation about my curating experience at the Central Library, Edinburgh from November 2015 to April 2016.
