Hello,
This is Tomba — the fictional chocolate brand I created as an homage to retro chocolate packaging design.
I’ve been developing this project for a month or so, studying chocolate wrapper designs and typography from the 2nd half of the 20th century, collecting chocolate packaging and, of course, eating a lot of candy!
There’s a very nice website which was a big inspiration for me called Candy Wrapper Archive. I also made an archive of my own but I just got to collect like 50 candy wrappers (and all of them from currently available candy).
I’m not used to work on typography but this was challenging to me somehow because type is such a strong element on the food packaging. I also developed some kind of funny character because when I think about kids sugary food I often think about an associated character.
