Inch by Inch: A zine on growth

As my project during my internship with Inksurge, I chose to work on conceptualizing and branding a personal art zine that would marry my love for the visual and written arts.
Inch by Inch is ultimately about personal growth, and how we always seem to measure and to compare ourselves to others. I wanted to contrast between the exactness of clean lines and geometric shapes in branding, and the looseness of organic shapes and textured hand drawn illustration.
The Logo
Inch by inch denotes a unit of measurement, but also growth in (maybe tiny) increments.
Squares are exact and equal, embodying the term "Inch by Inch". I added lines to mark measurement, and it doubles as a leaf's markings with the use of color. I chose to use Klinic Slab, as it is linear, clean, and simple. The feet of this slab serif and how I stacked the type is also meant to echo the measurement lines. This cascades down to other visual elements for the branding.

The Covers
We associate plants with growth. In the theme of inch by inch, the concept for every cover is the same scene playing out in a different and farther point of view. Much like how we learn and grow, our view of the world expands step by step.
There are many varieties and species of plants, and we humans must be just as or even more diverse with our own stories. Just like how silly it is to compare your growth with a plant, we shouldn't keep comparing ourselves with others. What matters most is how we keep growing into better versions of our past selves. Your growth is yours.
