Several years ago I set off in my Honda Element to tour the American southwest.  Something I think every photographer has to do at least once.  Live like a gypsy, and spend several weeks in a kind of nomadic isolation with your 'eye' on the whole time.
The southwest is ideal for this.  
Trolling hot, dusty deserted back roads with no cars in sight, wearing only a pair of sandals and shorts and not thinking of much of anything... this is when you can turn off the worst parts of your brain.

And take pictures.
