Visual level of textbooks is very low in Slovakia. A standard part of the Slovak textbooks became poor quality graphicdesign, illustrations and image material. As opposed of this situation I created a redesign of an existing textbook Art education forfirst year of primary school. An essential element of my diploma work became the paper, which is an important medium for children's drawing and painting. My new textbook is composed of different typesand colors of paper. I also created illustrations and title font from variety of paper Then I have photographed and scanned it. Illustrations and titles look like three dimensional. The new textbook is not an ordinary and sterile textbook. It contains a lot of space where the student can draw, paint, glued and cut out a part of it. The teacher allowed to students to work various tasks directly to the textbook or not. Analone child can also use availability and blank paper in the textbookfor drawing or painting. The creative teacher should devise new tasks and expanded the topics in a textbook format. My goal is to show to the publisher of textbooks, teachers, students and their parents, that the textbook can looks playful and more visually appealing and information clearly.
