Low Carbon Localism

Planning for a low carbon future...
Spatial planning is a system which guides and controls how an area develops. It sets out where new buildings are allowed to be built and how they are designed. And it defines how an area’s energy infrastructure will change in the future.
So the planning system is central to promoting and enabling more sustainable uses of energy. This might be through allowing the development of a community-owned renewable energy installation, or through requiring that all new buildings meet stringent energy efficiency requirements.
So how do we tackle a brief like this! Its simple, as with everything we start be telling a story...
Working with CSE and developing a script we begin to storyboard the animation. The constant left to right movement evolved from the beginning, this was evident throughout the storyboard stages
The style of the storyboard cells are quite loose and traditional, its enough to give the client a sense for movement and content. Adding colour at this stage would only distract from what we want the storyboard to achieve.
Once the storyboard and style sheets have been approved, we began to look at creating the content. We used 5 core colour palettes for each scene with a combination ending to tie the story together. This gave a natural ending to the story and relaying the message of neighbourhood communities. Everything was drawn in 2D digitally which added to the friendly nature of the overall "look" which was an integral part of the brief.
After creating the content which included over 300 assets we then positioned them on planes in a three dimensional space. When looking through the 3D camera and constantly moving through the scene we were able to add realistic depth of field and perspective through an effect called parallaxing.
