refugee crisis and tax fraud in germany—an infographic

Questioning Europe
Every day we encounter the symbols of the European idea. Windows, gates and bridges, symbols of sincerity and cooperation, of cross-cultural alliances, of reconciliation and merging adorn our banknotes.  The atmosphere in large parts of the EU seems to contrast with this symbolism. Ideas regarded as overcome a long time ago spread like wildfire. Nationalism is booming. And also within the national states the “I” is more important than the “we”. But what is the reason? Grexit, Brexit, bank rescues, refugee quotas … it is all about that one matter:
beloved money.
The bridge is a symbol of connection,  but here it turns into a symbol of the EU’s failure, of leaving stranded people alone
and turning back to nationalism.

Questioning Tax Politics
Shutting the doors for those who are hard up, but rolling out the red carpet for those who are not reliant on it? Is this the Europe we want to live in?
Opposite page, opposite symbol — the red carpet is an exaggerated image of european politics leaving loopholes for tax avoidance
and turn a blind eye to tax fraud.

Infographic Exhibition
2,500 “banknotes“ were printed on a heavy stock paper to bring the diagram into exhibition space. Complemented by a DIN A0 poster, which contained all the descriptions and information as seen above the installation was exhibited on differnet occasions.
