Pokemon Go Teams Reimagined (2016)
Pokemon Go was the largest mobile game in the world with an estimated 45 million active players in July of 2016. You or someone you know has probably played it. The game blends the real world with the digital world requiring players to physically explore their surroundings. GPS maps your location as you travel to various strategic locations or “PokeStops” in search of digital monsters that appear on screen. During the quest to “catch ‘em all” players join one of three teams that compete for territory: Team Mystic, the blue team, represented by the legendary ice bird Articuno, Team Valor, the red team, represented by the legendary fire bird Moltres, and Team Instinct, the yellow team, represented by the legendary electric bird Zapdos.
My reimagined team logos were designed to imitate NFL team logos and the modern trend of rendering angry and streamlined versions of mascots. Like football fans, PoGo players became increasingly vocal, enthusiastic, and passionate about their respective teams but had no official mark that reflected this.
