This was our second visit to Panama on Sri Lanka's South Eastern coast. Despite it being a beautiful place, there were many major differences from when we were there just 5 months ago. The development of roads and an increase in tourism can be a great thing anywhere in the world, but here it has begun to take away the reason this place is special. Plastic waste has begun to make its way everywhere and feuds between village folk (owing to areas used for fishing being used for tourist related activities) is becoming common. This is not a place to visit but a place to live in and experience. Say no to the development of hotels! and the comforts of the developed world when here. To experience this place best, live life as a resident. fish, cook, farm and assist in any way that's sustainable. Don't expect even basic comforts like toilets and showers (expect to even take a dump with an elephant or croc around the corner). Go with little, and return with everything you took. If you can follow these then go and be. if not, please leave it be and go to Arugambay.
