DXB202 Image as Storytelling (photography) #oneperday

Title: New vs Old

Technique: Exploration photography looking though objects to create frames

Process: The process of this image is photography, I wanted to capture more of the foreground and blur the front image to portray the concept of "where we have been" Doing this I ensured the focus stayed on the back image.  As this was during the day the camera settings needed to be alters to ensure the exposure was ok to produce a crips image.
1/200, F10, ISO400

Reasoning:The reason for this is it too look at the story of history on my home town, looking though the new to see the old or not so well kept. This is why i chose to blue the freshly painted steel and focus on the old train carriage

Reflection: As these photos were taking during the day and it just so happened that the day was very bright it was a challenge to stop the flash and reflection from coming on the metal to create an over exposed image.
Title: Next Stop

Technique:  Photography storytelling image created with key landmarks to share the history of the town.

Process: For this image the story would best be told if the image was looking straight at the key elements which provide the information to the viewer.  They key information was the writing of the image and it needed to be in the grid of the rule of thirds.

Reasoning: The concept of story telling triggered this image, it reminded me of an outback Australian adventure with lost of story to bring home. I liked the sign which stated when and what time the next train will be leaving.

Reflection: I think the concept all worked well the only thing I would change was the time of day I look this image.
Title: Just Passing Through

Technique: Photography storytelling and photo journalism for this image

Process: I used my DSLR Canon EOS 80D - 1/400, F10, ISO400.  This image was an existing set on the side of the road.

Reasoning: I drive past this old petrol station on a regular basis and i often see people stop with old cars.  This to me tells a story about Ipswich heritage and tells a story to many Ipswich residents.

Reflection: I am happy with this image how ever I would have liked to stage it a bit better with a motor bike or a vintage car however it is on private property.
Title: Behind

Technique: Photography storytelling image created with key landmarks to share the history of the town.

Process: 1/80, F10,ISO 100

Reasoning:

Reflection:
Title: You Can Read

Technique: Photography storytelling image created with key landmarks to share the history of the town.

Process: Photo journalism using a Canon EOS 80D with the settings 1/800, F10, ISO 800, during the day

Reasoning: The age of this sign and the positioning I found interesting. It was in the middle of a massive open field. Made me feel like there was something special on the property for this sign.

Reflection: I enjoy the concept of the image however I would have like it to be more striking in colour. I didn't it in photoshop, i just feel it was taken in the wrong conditions.
Title: The long Road Ahead

Technique: Photography storytelling image created with key landmarks to share the history of the town.

Process: Photo Journalism with a Canon EOS 80D with the settings1/200, F10, ISO 100. Photo was taken from grown level.

Reasoning: I love the length in this image, give the viewers eye a line to follow. Ipswich has a heritage of railway and I felt it spoke a strong story.

Reflection: I have fund capturing this image, I was down on all fours trying to get the best length and dept of field.  I feel I captured this image well.
Title: Horsepower

Technique: Photography storytelling and photo journalistic technique created a sense of connection. This connection is developed with the eye contact between the driver and the viewer.

Process: Capturing this passion and nerves was successfully achieved by look straight down the lens at the person. The lighting was important so I ensured that the camera was set appropriately for the lighting and positioning of the sun. Once I was happy with this image I incorporated photoshop to remove distracting imaged from behind the drivers head. The use of the iris blur tool to focus on the driver and to blur the rest of the background.  There was also a few imperfections on the vehicle which i removed
1/250, F10, ISO 400

Reasoning: The camera positioning highlights and complements the feeling in this image. It is a view from the car and what it would see if looking back.  This technique was perfect for this story.

Reflection: There was a few images which were taken to achieve this photo journalism technique however I was extremely happy with the end result of photoshop and capturing of the moment.
