structural scale model
Fully working 1:50 model of a single 6m bay.
I designed and drew up an 'airfix' style kit of parts on AutoCad so that the model would require limited assembly time and all parts would simply slot together without the use of an adhesive.
The main arch construction beams were laser cut from 5mm clear acrylic and the exterior louvres/horizontal structural perlins cut from 3mm MDF.
The joints were hinged and tensioned to allow full articulation when the cable at the rear is pulled. As the roof is raised the louvres lifted simultaneously through a bully system running from the tension cables.

The model was instrumental in explaining and showing during presentations that the innovative raising roof system i had designed would fully function as intended.
