Sección Pararescate (FAA), Patch and logo design.

GOE Pararescue squad patch (Sección Pararescate) for the Argentine Air force, (Fuerza Aérea Argentina).
The job was develop a patch/bagde design for the squad that can also be used as a logo and general identity
purposes.
Pararescate is a squad of Argentine Air Force, Special Operations group (or GOE, grupo de operaciones especiales) tasked with recovery and treatment of personnel in humanitarian and combat mountainous
environments.  (similar to USAF PJ´s pararescue/parajumping units)

Functionality:
This new logo/patch will work in conjunction with GOE identity Patch, and since its part of it, It will have some visual resemblance and share common elements.

Inspiration:
Part of it came from elements commonly used in special forces bagdes / patches, such as combat knife, military-style patch shapes, etc.
Others were more specific, The Andean Condor (represents the great range or reach the squad has, as well as its airborne capability) the southern cross,  for its value as navigational aid,and symbol of The Austral hemisphere and the mountains, its specific operational field.
Also the maxim/catchphrase of the team “Audentes, fortuna iuvat” (from latin: fortune favors the brave) has to be included somewhere in the lower part of the patch.

First sketches.
The image shows some quite basic sketches that I would later refine. I like to draw furiously in the first steps to put on paper all possible ideas.

At this stage 2 main ideas stand out from the rest. I redraw them on Illustator to see how they work. Both use the same concept with a little exception, one includes a lightning to represent the fast deploy of these troops and a parachute, to emphasize the airborne capability of the team.
Final designs,

Elements of composition

Selected design:

Logo identity system:
First two, bagde style version for use in military uniform patches and beret pins. Second, two simplified versions for collateral use.
Squad Flag.

Since they will operate in different enviroments, patch variants in different Marpat camouflage patterns were developed, like desert, woodland, etc.

Desert and woodland marpat camuflage versions.

Combat knife with logo engraved on the blade.

Logo applied on tshirt for non military purposes,

Thanks for watching.
