Telychka residential area. Highrise. Kindergarten. Kyiv

Telychka is a former industrial area almost in the center of Kiev that is now in almost abandoned state.
It is few decade already that different architectural concepts are proposed to be implemented. The task we received to solve was a residential quarter for 18 000 citizens with further development of high rise and kindergarten on the base of masterplan. This area was divided into three parts and the group of students worked on each of them, which is illustrated on the common maquette.
The main principles of the masterplan were:
- sound protection from highways
- green edge of Dnieper river embankment
- sport axes along the river
- commercial line at the entry to area
- perimetrical housing blocks to provide more privacy
- green corridors as connector to the river
The high rise project was an exercise on the new type of building where norms and standards should have been applied. A spatial understanding and  different type of structure was researched.

Starting from the simple form was the first principle of kindergarten project.  So the square was the base of the plan. However, one can not forget that children are very active and emotional that is why enclosing them into strict geometrical form was inappropriate. This is the explanation why curved and smooth hallway space is crossing the building. It is not only makes the perception of interior more organical but also serves as a playground and meeting place especially in winter time.
