The warehouses 14 and 15 are located on the north side of the port of Thessaloniki, Greece and cover a total area of approximately 5200 sm. Direct contact with the road Kountourioti is avoided with dense plantings which are both visual and auditory threshold. In addition, planting and engravings on the floor around the warehouses lead visitors to the museum entrance.A unifying element of the two warehouses, an area with a particular entry and the intermediate key functional volume. This is a glass structure with a metal frame which incorporates a compact volume with a sloping roof and a maximum height of 9.20 meters. The area of the museum's permanent exhibition is housed in warehouse 15 and has a total area of 670 sm. while the temporary exhibitions are hosted (580 m) at warehouse 14. This warehouse also houses the dressing room, the hall, the library, the café-restaurant and all the necessary offices. In Warehouse 15, in addition to the permanent exhibition, there are the educational programs room, the museum shop, storage areas and the maintenance of collections.
Seeking to move away from the idea of the exhibition-front and wanting to gain a more experiential in nature, the museum's permanent exhibition is divided into three sections:
A. the port and its warehouses
B. the sorting of goods
C. the grocery store.
The exhibition introduces visitors to a path in a story that starts from the port and ends at the grocery store and aims to take him to a different place and time. The objects are of all categories (stationery, glassware, footwear, etc.) and not grouped with absolute rigor, but following the diverse nature of the grocery store. To create the right climate and enhance the meaning of each phase, items outside the collection are used such as wooden crates, sacks, barrels of wine, televisions, grocery labels, etc.
