Temporal Motion Light - Lighting Design Concept

The theme was LED lighting in the context of technological development. Light is a natural phenomenon, and artificial lighting is thus sort of an extension thereof; this made me realize that over time, by introducing artificial lights, especially in interior spaces, man himself has disrupted the natural balance of light and darkness brought about by the day-night cycle. The starting point of this concept was creating the necessary amount of interior light which would imitate nature; the alteration of light and darkness as conditioned by exclusively natural phenomena. An important characteristic of this principle led me to investigate in great detail the symbolism of light throughout history. The Sun as the main light source is interpreted in numerous cultures as an element of comfort, warmth, security, and truth. The day and night-time alteration caused by Earth’s revolution around the Sun has a certain psychological impact on us since it affects our perception of the passage of time.
In this project, emphasis is thus placed on the meaning of time and movement and the process of observation thereof, which establishes an elliptic connection between reality, perception, and an artificial object. The latter manipulates light, creating a cozy ambiance and re-introducing the natural day-night sequence into our daily lives and personal space.
