INTRODUCTION

Not only is Wrocław one of the biggest cities in Poland, but also is the European Capital of Culture in 2016. Main city of Lower Silesia is claimed to be contemporary, full of life and appealing to visitors. Moreover, citizens eagerly participate in revitalizations of estates. To that end, Nadodrze, district in Wrocław, is one of the most interesting places that is coming back to life. Many craftsman’s shops were prevented from deterioration and opening restaurants aided to gather people on the streets. Not to mention, inhabitants are perceived as more friendly than before and the whole area is much safer.

SITE PLAN

Building is situated next to the railway station designed by Herman Grapow in the historizing style and Staszic’s Park. Additionally, on Powstańców Wielkopolskich Square is immense area with communication hub for trams and buses.
The site is undeveloped terrain that happen to be in the centre of the district. Considering that, there should be situated the building  enhancing status of Nadodrze. Furthermore, it would gather society, either inhabitants or travellers using the station.

Having chosen the site, we decided to connect railway station with CCS in two ways. First way is by using a passage on the first floor, which creates a roofing for travellers wanting to enter the tunnel to the platform. The other one is by a car park; common for these two buildings. Due to close proximity of railway station and CCS, two buildings are bustling, attractive and convenient for inhabitants and students as well as travellers.

CCS – MAIN IDEA

The main assumption is to create a building, which will be flawless for photography and fashion future artists. The building that would awake creativity and innovativeness of students and show the significance of light in those two fields.

Building is situated in-between Powstańców Wielkopolskich Square and railways. Main entrance is plainly visible from every perspective in the vicinity. Inviting form of the portal creates a friendly space for travellers. Moreover, it entices passers-by to go inside.
Building is divided into three separate parts: warehouse, school and craftsman centre.

DAYLIGHT

Daylight in the building is used in many different ways. Not only does it reassure lightning in the whole building, but also provokes thinking about optical aspects of it.
In the project we prioritize daylight due to the fact – although some are unware of it – light affects our performance throughout the day. The light has equal level of importance as sleeping and eating.

DIFFUSION

Building, which can be deemed as one structure, in fact is a mixture of three secluded constructions. The major one is a warehouse that contains the other two buildings (school and craftsmanship centre). Roofing is created by insulated tensioned membrane leaning on the trusses. To that end, it enables supplying building with homogeneous light through the whole area of the roof. Thanks to that, it is a perfect designed space for learning, concentration and being in

< >DISPERSIONDispersion in the building is especially used as a design element. It can be observed in a number of spaces in the building. For instance, in the hallway. Immense but subtle construction tells a story about light dispersion. Not only do it have a social impact on perceiving physics, but also creates unrepeatable colour decoration in the interior.

The effect of dispersion has been implemented through two vertical rows of hanging mirrors reflecting the light and providing beam that is dispersed on the big sculpture.

< >POLARIZATIONINTERFERENCE

Using interference of light waves, gives students the opportunity to become acquainted with another effect in photography. To that end are designed narrow, flexible tubes as optical fibres, which supply class with beams of light. By using a wall with holes we got interference fringes and colourful mosaics.

CONCLUSION
With no hesitation can we assume that designed building emphasize the importance of the Nadodrze and enhance its value. Furthermore, it creates a space for high-performance students who want to expand their knowledge to another level of proficiency. The space has been prepared and provides a place for gatherings.  What is more, it creates a place for numerous craftsmen whose clients are attracted by unique interior and flabbergasting construction. Last but not least, it gives passers-by the opportunity observe how deeply physics is involved in our life and how can we take advantage of that knowledge.
