I designed a 6-bay plane truss using ABAQUS and verified the design using an 8-bay truss with the same load conditions. The aim of this project was to reduce the weight of this structure by area optimization. Fully Stressed Design (FSD) was used to optimize area of each arm of the truss for an allowable stress of 100 MPa and then the final weight of the structure was calculated. I was able to reduce the area by more than 50% of the initial weight.
