MapMaker Prototype (v3)

After several design revisions a prototype of the "new" MapMaker design was built.  MapSherpa was then built on Wordpress and MapMaker was folded in as a modal dialog.  A new skin was developed for Chameleon that was a redux version of what was being packaged as the new skin on the Chameleon project. I was being influenced by Konfabulator which was a set of desktop widgets for the Mac.  Yahoo! eventually bought Konfabulator, and I'm pretty sure the second iteration of iOS design employed the Konfabulator style.
The use of little black dialog bubbles permeated the design.  That a hallmark of Konfabulator design. The other hallmarks included photorealistic icons and imagery and glossy bubbly tiles.  Chameleon shipped with the bubbly design, and though it looked great, it didn't blend well with other design, and the redux version or something like it quickly replaced it.
The translucent selection area shown here allowed users to select their print area.  Something very similar is in use with MapSherpa today.
This iteration of MapSherpa started to also use OpenLayers for the drawing tools.  OpenLayers is still core to MapSherpa.  The drawing tools use brighter colours like orange and purple, while the rest of the UI was textured light and dark gray.  The idea was to let the UI complement the map, but the map was to be the focus.
Modal dialogs like this were just becoming trendy.  I can't remember for sure now, but I think the form elements and buttons may be a precursor to JxLib
Gentle bevels, gradients, drop shadows, translucence and dark elements were all inspired by the overall re-design of MapSherpa lead by my colleague and design lead Jason Fournier.
