*** the GREEN UNIT project has just been awarded 1'st prize at the Bucharest Architecture Annual 2012 (Architectural contests, projects and studies category). We will now direct our efforts for the implementation of this project in the local urban areas.

A city guarded by sad concrete colossal blocks needs a major change. The intense mediated thermic rehabilitation program brings forward a primitive and universal solution which slowly destroys the urban identity for sole benefits of thermal comfort. The clumsy executions and unfortunate choices of the unprofessionals alters architecture no matter its intrinsic value.
Prestigious residential buildings are similarly treated as the copy-paste designed communist blocks.

A thick paste spreads above everything, smoothing every wrinkle or imperfection, hiding every detail and any trace of personality. The cultural and esthetic values are ignored in the favor of the invoice values, and the urban landscape becomes overwhelmed by the improvised solutions.
Each of those buildings shelters small area flats. The balconies are sub-dimensioned and suffocated by the pvc openings. The generated space is way too small and cannot be used for its designed purpose: to simply be a relaxing outdoor place.
PROPOSAL
A simple intervention which eliminates all these drawbacks and elevates the ambient urban value. A light metallic structure, with independent foundation - which does not affect the building's structure, is linked to the existing balconies. The intervention over the existing building is minimal: only the balconies rails will be removed, and the window's openings will be enlarged - to allow passing from every room of the apartment to the new terrace. Every new terrace includes oversized flower pots which will allow the growth of a substantial green area.
Small trees will be localy planted and will cover several floors height.
Visual separation between neighboring terraces will be enhanced by using a metallic mesh which will accommodate climbing plants.
