METAMORPHOSIS

Editorial

This project is carried out within the context of my Master’s degree at the Faculty of fine Arts, University of Porto, to the curricular unity of Project under the orientation of Eduardo Aires.

A cinematographic work is the sum of several subjects. Those subjects do not belong exclusively to the seventh art, they are common to several visual arts.
Either design or cinema have a very strong imagery component, that is why they have so many points in common, becoming almost complementary subjects for its visual richness. Much like a film, a book
has a narrative, a rhythm and resorts to the use of color to convey a story and ensure that the signification process gets as pleasant as possible for its audience.

Cinema and design weave meanings that mark the society. They are reinterpretations of reality that seduce and seek to be interpreted. When you see a good movie, your emotions are on edge, tears
are shed, you laugh and most of all you reflect about what you see. The message is decrypted and the meanings are absorbed. And a book should be able to produce the same effect on the reader.

Metamorphosis is a book that seeks the construction of parallelism between design and cinema, focusing on the film “Laurence Anyways” by Xavier Dolan. The core idea of the project is to create a publishing solution to make use
of cinematic elements – the narrative construction, the rhythm and the color.

As we see in the movie we can distinguish several narratives, and the objective of this project is to
convey all this diversity of narratives through the editorial design , creating an object that is an almost literal transcription of the cinematographic work in a different format.

Thank you!
