Art of Sandy A. Baker, Cleburne, Texas
Sandy Baker
507 Granbury Street Cleburne, TX 76033

I am a hobbyist artist living in Cleburne with my husband Graham and four senior dogs. After graduating from Syracuse University with a BFA majoring in painting I worked for a year and a half as a graphic artist in upstate New York. Then the call of the flower power generation lured me to pack it all up and drive West to San Francisco. For a while I found work as a studio portrait photographer but then found it necessary to make rent by working in the financial world. Occasionally I painted on commission to make ends meet. I met  Graham (a transplant from Liverpool, England) in Alameda, CA. In 1988 circumstances meant saying a tearful goodbye to California and learning to appreciate my new home and lifestyle in Texas. While working full time jobs we became mini farmers with horses, goats, chickens, donkeys and up to eight dogs. In 1999 after surviving breast cancer I went to school to train as a massage therapist working it part-time. Finally I retired and picked up my paint brush again, first painting Native American style scenes on bones and gourds. Since 2009 I've been taking watercolor classes with Ann Winchester and seminars in pastels and oils. The classes help me focus on making art and trying new techniques. I love to combine different medias and paint out of the box.  My subject matter is eclectic but veers to the natural world of animals. Selling a painting now and then or taking on a commission makes doing art even a little bit more rewarding.
