Tutankhamun Exhibition

Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs Exhibition
Artifacts from the boy king's tomb return to London for the first time in 25 years

Tutankahmun’s historic return to London, SML created and implemented an integrated 360 degree campaign including, marketing partnerships, on pack promotions, stunts, media events, advertising and media partnerships. Third party branding included Kelloggs, Camelot, Hamley’s, bmi, Waterstones, Tfl, Visit London, Thames Clippers and many more. SML also created a number of ‘world firsts’ including the first national ‘branded cup’ promotion with Café Nero.

The exhibition was held at the O2 Arena and was one of the most successful events to date, visited by millions it quickly became the Capital’s largest cultural event for 2007 and 2008.

As SML's appointed designer I had sole creative control over the entire campaign. It was a lengthy project that was sustained over the course of 18 months leading up to and during the events itself. With only the logo given to start with along with a selection of high res artifact photos, I developed a comprehensive visual style that would be applied to all manner of promotional materials ranging from small newspaper adverts to large scale decals for a Thames Clipper Boat. The highlight was the gala opening event for which a special gold foil embossed invitation was created using Tutankhamun's own heiroglyph on the front and reverse of the card.
