Little Miss Robot

Digital Art
Creating the vision

During the first months of 2012 I worked as an intern at Little Miss Robot, a digital creative studio based in Ghent. The focus of the company is to provide innovative concept and interface design, application development and creative direction for leading brands. They strive to combine the unlimited creativity and imagination of a 'Little Miss' with technology-driven opportunities of a 'Robot'.

One of the projects I worked on was a 3D visualization of this vision and philosophy. I decided to make 3 shots of Ghent and integrated both the Little Miss and The Robot. Check out the process and result below

Making Of
first sketches of the robot, this was originally intended as a tiny robot, smaller than our miss.
One of the latest sketches, 3D model was based on this one.
Building the 3D model
This was the first try at compositing the robot with a real environment, at this point I noticed the obvious design flaws and the lack of integration into the scene, so I went shooting again with my collegue Valentijn Kint for some better pictures and a proper environment map.
This is the 360° map of the environment you see in the final image. Thanks to Valentijn Kint for making it for me.
With this I could properly generate the reflections on the robot to match him in the scene.
But the flawed design bugged me so much, I made a last minute decision to go back to the drawing board and sculpt this new one out.

Matching the perspective of the chosen photograph and rebuilding some of the scene.
