As a gift, I turned my boyfriends handwriting into a font. He's a writer, and has spent years honing his lettering. My initial process included sneaking his sketchbooks, scanning several of his works, and picking each letter of the alphabet to draw over in Adobe Illustrator.
I then presented his typeface in haiku-form about his forest adventures, and paired it with a bronze compass.
