I met marketing specialists Linda and Ira Distenfield, owners of Marketing Express, through another client in Santa Barbara County in 2011. Linda and Ira were in the process of expanding Marketing Express in a new location where they planned to have additional in-house employees and provide a wider range of services to local small businesses. During the transition, they were in need of someone to revamp their corporate identity and assist as needed with projects for existing clients. That's where I came in...
AN UPDATED IDENTITY
The first order of business was to polish their identity. Linda and Ira provided a previous version of their logo. They wanted to maintain a similar aesthetic, but the logo was in need of finess. I worked with them to create a logo that was more dynamic and memorable. We kept the diagonal aesthetic that they liked from the original logo, while creating a clean, striking, and well balanced arrangement for a stronger presentation.
Next, business cards and envelopes were created based on their updated identity. We played with the idea of creating caricatures of the marketing team, but they ultimately decided that they were not comfortable with that route. In the end, I just created a business card template that was clean, simple, bold, and flexible.
I designed a 5" x 5.5" newspaper ad and a half-page magazine ad, using their desired colors, to help them launch their new location. During the course of the transition, and over the next year, I also handled jobs for ME clients through Flight 19 while they finalized their own staffing arrangements in Santa Barbara.
