The Martini Operation

We were asked in our typography course to do a cookbook with an additional value and I decided to do a book with the favourite drinks and dishes from famous mafia/gangster bosses.

To connect all these persons I complemented it with a selfwritten story of a young barkeeper, who unintentionally becomes part of a Philadelphia mob.

This is not an ordinary (mafia) cookbook.
It is the realest cookbook out there :P

The story starts in the end of 1993 with the death of Pablo Escobar. Intrigued by Pablo’s actions and his lifestyle, young Barkeeper Marlo decides to dedicate one of his cocktail creations to his gangster idol. This gets him in trouble with a local gang, that wants to teach him a lesson; but in the last second his favorite regulars come to his rescue.

When he tries to make it up to them by doing the catering for a „family dinner“ he meets their friend Joey who soon offers him a job. Fascinated by his powerful vibes, Marlo agrees and continues to work for the Merlino family.

Marlo soon learns what he got himself into, but at this point he knows that he can’t leave the family anymore.

Witnessing the violence of the mob makes him realize that the gangster lifestyle is not as much for him as he thought it was his whole life; so he is starting to look desperately for a way out of the situation.

In the end he decides to do the right thing by saving someone innocent, which gets him the help of another mobster and his freedom back. But I don't wanna spoil too much of the story. I guess you just have to read it ;)

Disclaimer: The story is loosely based on the events of the Merlino Mob in Philadelphia at the time. The details of the story are of course completely made up.
I didn't make all the pictures that were used in this book. If one of those pictures is yours and you mind me using it, drop me a message and I will remove it.
