The Christchurch Centre of Contemporary Art (CoCA) reopened in February 2016. Having been closed for five years following the earthquakes, and with a new curator on board, the gallery wanted a fresh identity with wide appeal. The solution started with a clean, timeless logo to reestablish the gallery’s esteemed 135-year history. The identity was then given life through the introduction of bright pops of colour, simple shapes, compelling imagery and playful type. Fixed yet flexible, professional yet fun, the new CoCA identity ensures a high degree of creative freedom while helping to rebuild one of Christchurch’s iconic brands.
