A project done for Design Course 210 at the American University in Cairo.
This studio course is an introduction to and experimentation with different aspects of Arabic typography. It addresses letter forms and their legibility, visual organization, classification and text applications. Projects will explore the fundamentals of Arabic typography in terms of history, theory and practice.
This work was inspired by the Islamic geometric patterns since Arabic
typography has always been an art of geometry, patterns and is a tradition. The colors are Hand-painted with gouache and the color scheme was chosen as it gave attention and freshness among the bold Kufic calligraphy. The calligraphy is my first and last name; Sara Azlw and was left in white so it would stand out and match the concept of the colors; simple, elegant and grabs the eye. The final was then mounted on white on top of black board.
