3rd Sign Brewery takes their name from Gemini, the third sign of the Zodiac. Represented as twins, this astrological figure symbolizes duality. 3rd Sign Brewery showcases this dual nature through different interpretations of the same style of beer. In designing their labels for their annual beers I created labels that borrowed from one another. Each label has its own composition, but also is visually consistent with its pair. The owner of the brewery wanted labels that stand out on the shelves. I created visual interest through color, patterns, and subject matter. The label imagery was inspired by the brewers' traditional technique of creating pairs of beers, but with a new twist. I dissected and reassembled old nineteenth century engravings to create complete new compositions. Through this method of reassembly I was able to give a completely new narrative to the engravings.
