A LITTLE BACKGROUND

Rasa.io is a New Orleans based group that builds a social media platform directed at large associations. The web application and mobile app is centrally focused on helping associations build long-term momentum within their online communities. We are proud to have partnered with Rasa since it first launched and are extremely happy that the relationship has continued over time. We have worked closely with Rasa in: Brand Development, Marketing, Website Application Development, and iPhone/Android Mobile App Development.

BUILDING A BRAND

Radolo's first task was to assist in the overall Rasa brand strategy before beginning any web interface design or application development. Our two teams met frequently during the brand discovery process at our New Orleans central office to provide our designers with an understanding of the core Rasa values. We felt the brand we developed reflected Rasa’s core principle of building lasting engagement within online communities and that the marketing materials were full of purpose and energy.

A FRAMEWORK FOR COMMUNITY

Rasa is a social network that is designed for both desktop and mobile app interfaces and provides a way for associations to engage their members on a personal level. The system also allows members to interact with each other and create their own evergreen content within the app. These feedback loops are carefully designed to provide a streamlined user experience allowing for natural growth within a given community. A major success of the platform has been the approach of giving users digital tools without restrictions, allowing for innovation and allowing the app to be flexible as it grows.

DESKTOP WEB APPLICATION

After completion of branding, it was time to begin the process of interface design and app development for a minimal desktop web application. All of the apps Radolo develops start with a design first approach. Our developers then build the web applications completely within the client approved user interface design. By always approaching our work this way, we guarantee that user experience is not compromised while building the app backend. During the Rasa web application development, we coordinated with multiple teams in New Orleans and around the country to build a strong initial system that could grow. The app design constantly pushes interaction and sharing with a clean interface promoting relevant user comments. Our primary goal was to create an easy to use web application that provided amazing content while never compromising design or user experience.

SMALL INTERFACE, POWERFUL FEATURES

The mobile app was designed with the user always in mind from the beginning. We wanted our design to promote a very streamlined interface for both iOS and Android app users. By diving into the most important features during discovery we were able to anticipate user needs.

MOBILE APP DEVELOPMENT

After deploying the desktop web application to Beta we set to work designing the interface for the app store versions. We knew we wanted the same amazing user experience from the desktop built into our mobile apps. Building a mobile app can be costly and time-consuming, primarily because iOS and Android apps are built in different code. We overcame this challenge by using the Cordova platform, allowing us to build the app with pure HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript and then deploy to both iOS and Android operating systems with a single app package. Because we already had the backend services built for the web application we were able to significantly cut down development time and the overall project cost.
