or how to illustrate a poem, tapping into the hidden message.
This project is an illustration to a poem titled 'Wasp' by an Irish poet, Noel Duffy. The brief provided a choice of five different poems, leaving the designer with the decision of what appeals to them the most. I took the liberty of analysing the meaning of the poem and introducing imagery consistent with my interpretation.
WASP by Noel Duffy
Big-eyed and satisfied
the severed head
of a wasp feeding
on marmalade
no longer wasp
merely wasp-head
somehow outliving
its own death
as it gorges
the honeyed water
from the bowl with
no stomach to hold it
no wings to lift
its broken body
from the place
of final pleasure.
