Tragedy in Color

“Tragedy in Color.” Ballpoint Pens on Canvas Panel (16x20"). 2016.
Image composed of various range of loose and condensed scribbles used to create a gestural portrait. expressionist penwork using non-linear crosshatching. Then, a number of thick layers of hairspray is applied to the drawing on canvas to create a painterly drip effect simply using pen.

This is a deviation from my typical pen work, im still in the process of understanding this method. experimental, expressionist style

Detail of drip-like effect caused by applying hairspray to pen on canvas panel. Certain colors changed and intensified with hairspray application.
Original ballpoint drawing on canvas, later added various colored pens [blue, purple, red, orange, yellow] over the original, then sprayed hairspray all over it. some may say that i ruined a perfect drawing, but it was just a little too perfect. in its destruction ive created, a new style to experiment with.
