Xiang Wang Yi is an exploration into what course to follow for Chinese clothing and this exploration starts from the source - spirit of the scholars that Chinese institution of mourning apparel depends for existence, presenting a sort of path that could be outspread into the future, which is the Xiang Wang artistic conception in the articles of Zhuangzi. Xiang is not what you have and Wang is not what you don't have. With this method, the cause and effect of Chinese costume could be analyzed. Clothing can't be only regarded as clothing nor Hakama be only taken as trousers, so boundless possibilities are generated among jacket, skirt and Hakama.
