Machine Screw Packaging

About

The objective of this project was to utilize Gestalt principles across three dimensions to develop a packaging system of three visually and conceptually unified pieces. Through a process of researching, mind-mapping, sketching and making mock-ups, I arrived at a solution based on the concept of joining or fastening. As the box is opened, its two halves interlock and the top image of the screws joins to form a completed circle, while the screw on the side joins to a plane. Three box sizes accommodate three proportionally corresponding screw sizes. Label information is contained on the side, easily accessible when the boxes are stacked. When they are arranged horizontally, the diagonal windows group to resemble a screw’s thread.
